On December 13, 2007, Adobe announced that it is releasing BlazeDS and publishing the AMF (Action Message Format) specification and contributing both to open source.
BlazeDS is a Java code library that allows developers to communicate more effectively between the Flash Player (client) and the Java server. BlazeDS automatically marshals calls between the two using AMF, a binary data transfer format. Adobe claims that the use of AMF over other more traditional data transfer formats (SOAP, XML) allows applications to load data from the server over 10 times faster.
