We had a great turnout at our fourth meeting last night. James Ward from Adobe was our guest speaker and he enlightened us on the new features in Flex 3 and AIR and even told us a bit about Thermo and Blaze DS.

If you missed it, we had a great turnout. Approximately 30 people attended, which shattered our previous attendance marks. We hope that this meeting will give us the momentum we needed to get all of the Flex, AIR and ColdFusion developers to attend regularly. It was a great opportunity to network, meet new people, make new friends and learn.

Three lucky people left with nice gifts. Adobe provided door prizes which included an iPod Nano, a copy of FlexBuilder 3 and a full copy of CS3 Web Premium valued at $1,700!! There was lots of other schwag as well including t-shirts, books, coffee mugs, sports thermoses and several other things. Everyone went home with something.

Adobe was also gracious enough to provide funding for the food and drink. We had Qdoba Mexican food, which included tacos, beans, chips, salsa and some sweets to finish.

We would like to thank all of you that attended and hope that you will choose to attend regularly. We would also like to thank the Drive Agency for graciously hosting our meetings each month. Next, we’d like to thank Adobe for providing all of the prizes, funding our meal and making James Ward available to us and finally, we’d like to thank James Ward for taking his time to visit our new group and tell us all about Flex 3 and AIR!

On December 13, 2007, Adobe announced that it is releasing BlazeDS and publishing the AMF (Action Message Format) specification and contributing both to open source.

BlazeDS is a Java code library that allows developers to communicate more effectively between the Flash Player (client) and the Java server. BlazeDS automatically marshals calls between the two using AMF, a binary data transfer format. Adobe claims that the use of AMF over other more traditional data transfer formats (SOAP, XML) allows applications to load data from the server over 10 times faster.
